In this blog, I will be creating multiple quick sketches of the human body, anatomy, costumes, etc. The class that this is for is called Cafe Sketch at the Columbus College of Art and Design; feel free to browse and comment at your leisure!

"In class" #8
For this class sketch, we were lucky enough to go to "Ballet Med" and sketch the most graceful people I've ever seen! This was probably my most favorite trip yet.
The drawing on the bottom right has a great 'S'curve line of action in her spine all the way down to the feet. It's a good attitude pose. On some of the action/movement poses I will suggest using looser line work to help capture the energy of the movement. Good work.
Jordan, All of these are well-drawn forms and the bottom right subject definitely has the strongest character - the stuff of model sheets. Take this competent drawing of the human figure and be more adventurous with your choice of poses. Eventually, you will have no fear of drawing the figure in mid-leap while turning the upper body and posing the arms at different angles. I like the line weight, too... keep working loosely, then refine with more confident lines.

ReplyDeleteI think you did a good job picking out individual poses from the dancing, as well as capturing some attitude (the figure at the bottom right). Nice!
